Swaraj- Arvind Kejriwal

Mahatma Gandhi, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and a lot of our revered pre-Independence freedom fighters have espoused the cause of Self Rule or Swaraj but post Independence, our new leaders made a costly blunder. They drove out the foreign master but failed to dismantle his 'Collector Rule'.

After removing the British rule we should have reverted back to Swaraj. Yes, the British realized the invincibility of the Indian administration system which was based on self rule by the village administration. Till 1860, the administrative decisions were taken by the village sabhas and the decisions were implemented by the king and his army. The British took away all powers of the state by appointing collectors. So, the taxes that were collected and used by the village sabhas for matters regarding irrigation, education and all other matters pertaining to the welfare of villages, were now routed to the Collector, to fill the coffers of the Bristish Empire.

With the education under their control, the English rulers introduced English as the medium of instruction and made it compulsory in their official government machinery. It was easy to wrest control as the locals were intimidated by the implementation of English as the official language.

The Aam Admi party aims to root out corruption and hand back the administrative control to the basic unit, the gram sabha in the village  and the mohalla in the town and cities.
